House members will vote Tuesday night on the Senate’s fiscal cliff bill. Republicans met in two conference meetings to discuss the bill. At the end of the first meeting, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) came out against the Senate legislation.

RSC Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) told Breitbart News that GOP members had a number of problems with the bill, particularly with the massive spending in it. Jordan pointed out that House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) had "real concerns" over what the Senate sent back to the House.

“I think with Democrats it would pass in its current version but we would love to improve it by [adding] spending cuts, because it does not have spending cuts. Without spending cuts, many of us are unhappy with it,” said Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) “If we did that, it creates a lot of problems. I think that, and I don’t know what the count is at this point, but I think many of us are beginning to lean against adding any amendments and just voting up or down on the Senate version,” he added.

The Congressional Budget Office came to the conclusion that the bill would add $4 trillion to the deficit in ten years. Fleming told reporters he would vote against the current Senate bill, but that even with no amendment there are enough Republicans and Democrats to pass the legislation.

A senior aide in GOP leadership cautioned that an amended bill would likely go back to the Senate, where Senate Majority Harry Reid would not allow a vote on it.
